It is always gratifying when the knowledge, professionalism and craftsmanship of the HD staff are allowed to shine in projects that leave a lasting legacy.
HD recently completed the design and construction of two steel road signs for Gísli's Collection at Uppsala in Selárdal in Arnarfjörður. The signposts are a gift from HD to the museum and will welcome visitors and direct them to the museum when it formally opens on 7 August 2026.
The first signpost has already been installed and makes a strong impression on the approach to the museum. The other will be installed before the museum opens.
Combines design, craftsmanship and technical expertise
The signposts were designed by HD's technicians to a model and then laser-cut from steel in HD's workshop in Kópavogur. The result is a striking steel sculpture that combines art, design and quality craftsmanship, and fits in exceptionally well with the rugged landscape of Selárdalur.
The project is a good example of how the expertise of HD staff is utilised not only in service to Icelandic industry but also in projects that support culture, history and society.

It is safe to say that the steel road sign looks good in the Westfjords fog as it welcomes visitors on their way to the museum.
