From accident to solution

In 2011, a young fisherman, Kristján Guðmundsson from Dalvík, was seriously injured when fish boxes fell on him during unloading. The accident was the catalyst for the development of safety equipment that would prevent such incidents in the future.

Following this, Samherji, in collaboration with HD ehf. and other parties, immediately began development work that led to the Kristjánsbúr – a piece of equipment that changed the landing process for the future. The product was first introduced to the public at Samherji's 30th anniversary in 2013 and has since been used widely with great success. Kristján himself called the cage „the best invention of all time“.
