HD Ltd. and <\/strong>Icelandic Society of Petroleum Exploration<\/strong><\/a> have signed a contract with DGDC Ltd<\/a>. (Dominica Geothermal Development Company Ltd.) on the supervision of the commissioning and operation of a 10 MW geothermal power plant in Dominica, Caribbean. The contract also includes the compilation and processing of data on the geothermal system's response to production, which the plant's operator is required to submit to the owner of the geothermal resource.<\/strong><\/p>

The collaboration between HD ehf. and \u00cdSOR is based on a clear division of labour, where HD ehf. provides specialists in the commissioning, operation and maintenance of geothermal power plants and is responsible for the technical operation of the plant and its subsequent monitoring. ISOR is responsible for the aspects relating to the design and nature of the geothermal system, its chemical and reservoir properties, as well as the assessment of the system's response to production.<\/p>

The Geothermal Power Plant in Dominica<\/strong><\/p>

ISOR has been involved in geothermal research in Dominica, providing advice to DGDC Ltd. and the country's government since 2010. DGDC Ltd. acts on behalf of the Government of Dominica, manages the geothermal boreholes at the power plant site, and owns the geothermal resource and the steam power plant, with the aim of ensuring sustainable and cost-effective electricity generation for the future. The project has included, among other things, the investigation, drilling and processing of data from seven geothermal wells, three of which are being used as production wells and one as a disposal well.<\/p>

The geothermal power plant has an installed capacity of 10 MW, and its electricity generation will replace the current electricity generation, which is largely based on diesel. The project therefore represents a significant improvement to the carbon footprint of Dominica, which has a population of around 70,000, and is an important step towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy production on the island.<\/p>

HD's expertise is utilised in the project.<\/strong><\/p>

According to L\u00fd\u00f0ur Sk\u00falason, Director of HD's Energy Division, the project is important both for Dominica and for the export of Icelandic expertise in the field of geothermal energy. \u201eHD's role in the project is to provide expertise that supports the professional commissioning and reliable operation of the power station,\u201c says L\u00fd\u00f0ur.<\/p>

HD ehf. has extensive experience in the commissioning and operation of geothermal power plants and utilises in this project the knowledge and experience that has been built up in Iceland in the field of geothermal energy. Through its participation in the project, HD ehf. supports the energy transition in Dominica and the development of reliable and sustainable energy production in the Caribbean.
