L\u00fd\u00f0ur Sk\u00falason, Director of the Energy and Environment Division at HD, recently took part in the GR\u00d3 Geothermal School as an instructor for the ninth time. The course is part of the GR\u00d3 Geothermal Training Programme, which aims to build the capacity of professionals in developing countries in the field of geothermal energy through education, research and field studies in Iceland.<\/strong><\/p>

GR\u00d3 \u2013 Development Cooperation Knowledge Centre<\/a> operates under the auspices of UNESCO and runs four training programmes in fields where Iceland has expertise: geothermal energy, gender equality, land reclamation and fisheries. The Geothermal School, established in 1979, is the oldest programme, and over 1,500 experts from 100 countries have graduated from it.<\/p>

\u201eIt is always an honour to teach at the GR\u00d3 geothermal school. This is the ninth year I have participated as an instructor, and my course is dedicated to the testing, design and selection of deep pumps for geothermal production,\u201c says L\u00fd\u00f0ur.<\/p>

The course consists of both theoretical and practical instruction. In the second part, the group visited Seltjarnarnes District Heating<\/a> where Arnar \u00d3li Einarsson, the district heating manager, welcomed participants and presented how deep wells are utilised in the system's daily operation. \u201eThis station is exceptionally well-suited for teaching and provides an excellent overview of the operation of the deep wells in the town's district heating system,\u201c added L\u00fd\u00f0ur.<\/p>

This year's participants came from, among other places, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Bolivia, Bhutan, the Comoros and Dominica. \u201eIt is very inspiring to meet such an enthusiastic and diverse group of people working on sustainable energy use from all over the world.\u201c<\/p>

HD's participation in the GR\u00d3 geothermal school is part of strengthening international cooperation and the company's profile, as well as enhancing professional capacity and connections with experts and partners in the geothermal field worldwide.
